Product Description:

Get dynamic, full-bodied surround sound from a simple, compact package: Sony's 100-watt-per-channel HT-DDW750 surround sound system. Consisting of an audio/video receiver and a complete 5.1-channel speaker package, the HT-DDW750 accepts direct digital bitstreams from DVD players, satellite receivers, and DVRs while processing everything from DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 discrete surround signals to Dolby Pro Logic II, which generates multichannel surround from any stereo source--movie or music. The system's onboard 32-bit surround processor also features Sony's own Digital Cinema Sound System (Cinema Studio EX), broadening your surround listening possibilities. Easy to assemble, the system includes all requisite cabling, including a subwoofer cable and a coaxial digital-audio interconnect for stereo or surround signals. (Depending on your DVD player or other associated gear, however, you may require an optical digital-audio cable for true surround sound--compatible but not included.) Three composite-video inputs offer accompanying analog-audio inputs, accommodating most audio/video components and granting convenient AV switching: just channel the AV signals from a DVD player, VCR, and cable box (for instance) to the receiver, then route a single composite-video cable from the receiver's monitor output to your television. You'll need to supply your own composite-video cables, and if you have an older TV it may require a video modulator to convert the receiver's composite-video (yellow RCA jack) signal to an RF signal (which uses a thicker, threaded jack). The included speakers cover left, right, center, and left/right surround, along with a 75-watt powered subwoofer with a bass port for added low-frequency slam. A host of radio presets (20 FM, 10 AM) put all your favorite stations (and then some) right at your fingertips, and the receiver's amplifier uses discrete output transistors for clean, quality power. Optional mounting brackets or speaker stands (models WS-WV10D and WS-FV10D, respectively) simplify speaker placement, the assumption being that you'll want to place the center-channel speaker atop your television for optimal dialogue matching. All speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent distortion when placed on or near your TV. What's in the Box STR-K750P audio/video receiver, SA-VE75P speaker package, SA-WMSP75 subwoofer, a user's manual, all requisite speaker cable, a monaural RCA subwoofer interconnect, a coaxial digital-audio interconnect, and a Remote Commander remote control (model RM-PP411).

Comment: For the price it gets a five rating!!!!!!!!!!!! Rating: Rating: 5
This is a great home theater system for the price, I paid $264.00 from Amazon. The music it plays is rich and full--good highs from the satellite speakers and the sub is good without being too boomy--you can adjust the levels of all 5 speakers including the sub. The best part is sound from the Dolby digital 5.1 and DTS--WOW! I recommend one try the Gladiator DVD encoded with DTS. The surround sound effect is really dictated by how the DVD was encoded at the factory so it can vary from DVD to DVD. All the home theater one will need unless you live in a mansion!!!

Comment: great for a first system Rating: Rating: 4
I have been wanting a home theater system for a long time and this one was a great first choice. The instructions take a little longer to digest through than I thought they would, but within 2 hours everything was set up, adjusted and I was watching a dvd. Great for someone who already has a dvd player they like and only needs the basic system. I live in an apartment and the sound is fantastic.

Comment: Great Complete System for the Price Rating: Rating: 5
I have never had anything but the audio coming from the stereo speakers on my TV, and I was blown away the first time I heard this system. I bought this system brand new off of eBay for $250 total in late February 2004 and have been completely satisfied since.

I like to relax in my room now and crank that sub all the way up untill my windows rattle and the pictures on the wall shake. It did take me a couple hours to get set-up becuase I went crazy in getting everything just perfect in the settings. This system can get as loud as you'd want for a small to medium sized room.

One of the main reasons I got this was for Pro Logic II decoding on my Gamecube games, and Wow it's awesome to hear on games that support it. But the real treat comes when watching DVDs in Digital or DTS. For the first time I experienced true surround in my room and it was incredible. I recommend trying Saving Private Ryan DVD in the first beach-landing scene with the bass cranked all the way up to feel the explosions.

The receiver is pretty straight-forward and easy to use if you read the manual first. Some of the settings don't change the overall sound that much. I use different modes when I am listening to sound from different equipment...

Audio CDs - Dolby Pro Logic II MUS mode
DVD's - CSTEX B Movie mode
Gamecube/Radio - Dolby Pro Logic II MOV mode

Overall an excellent budget system (A Sony too!). I recommend.
