Product Description:
The PDV-0700 portable DVD player from Polaroid Electronics lets you enjoy your movies, music, and digital photos when you're on the road or relaxing in the comfort of your own home. Its autosensing power adapter (AC 100 to 240V, 50/60 Hz) makes it perfect for international use, too--a great companion for business or pleasure. The book-thin, MP3-friendly player features a broad, 7-inch LCD configured in a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio whose dimensions closely approximate those of your favorite contemporary movies. A supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery keeps your discs spinning for three to four hours between charges, and the player also comes with separate AC and DC power adapters for use indoors, in cars and boats--you name it. The PDV-0700 also offers built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening, picture zoom, and compatibility with DVD-Video, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs--not to mention digital photos stored as JPEG images on recordable CD (you can rotate and zoom on these, as well). Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (through a .125-inch minijack-to-RCA coaxial cable, not supplied) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Use the supplied AV interconnects to hook the player up with your television and/or stereo system. The supplied wireless, credit-card-sized remote control is just as useful within your home or without. Playback options include frame-by-frame slow motion, forward and reverse play, and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs). Headphones are not included, though you do get a handy splitter for listening with a friend. What's in the Box DVD player, battery pack, remote control, remote battery, headphone splitter, an auto-switching AC power adapter, DC vehicle adapter, audio/video interconnects, and a user's manual.

Comment: You get what you pay for Rating:
I bought this particular DVD player at Best Buy, and while it does what it's supposed to do, which is play DVDs, its build quality is mediocre at best. With a 4 year warranty in hand, I've had to replace my unit 4 times now. Problems include - no audio from speakers, black and white picture instead of color on the screen, and recently, the lid just won't close. If you want a cheap DVD player, you probably cannot do better than this. I highly recommend getting an extended warranty though. It'll definitely pay for itself in the long run.
Comment: Will break! Rating:
I bought this unit in August 2003. I take very good care of my things and I am very delicate with electronics and never really had a problem with them until I got the PDV-0700. I used it a few hours per week unitl October when all of a sudden, it would not play DVDs anymore. The screen would go half black half white every time it would be turned on. Lucky for me the warranty at that point covered the repair. They had to change the screen. Then it was good for another few months, until the new screen stopped working too. I am very disappointed. I payed hard earned money for a unit I was able to use for less than a year. I decided to go and buy a higher quality, more expansive unit from a more established brand in the dvd player market. I now wish I had done this from the start.
Comment: do not buy this model!!! Rating:
I received this DVD player as a gift. I was thrilled and thought it was really cool. (I could watch movies while at the airport etc)
The item lasted almost 2 weeks and then... suddenly would no longer play DVDs. Nothing. It would turn on and start spinning. But nothing on the screen... and then.. it would just stop on its own.
note that I never abuse my electronic stuff and everything was handled carefully.
The worst part was when I contacted the polaroid cust service about the warranty info. It was a gift and I didn't have the receipt. They said without the receipt, there was nothing they could do for me. Thanks for nothing. It was a brand new player that lasted less then 2 weeks and they say "sorry!"
This is just a risky buy cuz the quality is so bad. Like another reviewer said, buy one from Sony or other reputable japanese makers.
I puirchased a Panasonic and have been totally happy ever since.
I know this player is cheap... like a lot of the players from China. But do yourself a favour and spend a few extra bucks for a unit that'll work when you play a disc.
