[Hometheaterblog.com] OPPO DV-970HD DVD Player Review: Home Theater Blog | Home Theater ...: Likewise as Im admittedly not into multi-channel audio I tend to keep my purchases limited to high bit-rate DVD-A's and SACDs that offer 2-channel playback. While Im on the subject, as youre probably aware Ive been critical of Blu-ray (minor understatement) thus far but I happen to feel SACD (Spearheaded by Sony & Philips) is a great format, it's a shame it didnt fare well with the majority of music lovers, Cie la vie.

[Arstechnica.com] Opposable Thumbs: The 360 DVD player. It's just not good.: Certainly when I worked for Philips (a long time ago) most Marantz kit was functionally identical to equivalent Philips kit, just in a shinier box and with a higher price tag. Hi-fi review magazines (ever the mugs) would still give the Marantz kit a higher review score than an identical item with a Philips logo just because they are total suckers for "more expensive means it must sound better." This isn't to say the Marantz kit was bad - it was more a testament to the fact that certainly in those days Philips made some damn good equipment.
