Movie Review: Maria Full of Grace
[Archived in Entry]
[KJToo] I rented Maria Full of Grace a couple of weeks ago and it sat on the shelf above the television until tonight. It’s been kind of hectic around here lately, what with guests from out of town and picnics and birthday parties and whatnot, so we didn’t find an opportunity to watch it right away. But Blockbuster wants it back before noon tomorrow or I’m going to pay seventeen bucks for the DVD. All it takes is the right motivation, I guess.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Slurpee] Summertime in January: I have a few deadlines to meet and much to read/write, so when I am not goofing around with my friends sharing music and playing isketch at night (Meocat cheats!), this has been taking up most of my time. I have also been watching many more films, thanks to my Blockbuster membership.
[Inside My Head] Low-Key, Fun-Filled Weekend: The afternoon for me comprised of watching the Miami Heat spank the Washington Wizards, playing video games, and watching random movies on TV. Not happy with the DirecTV offerings tonight, Chris and I went to Blockbuster and swapped Ali G for Van Wilder. After watching that movie, now I REALLY miss being in college. Man, I had some fun times.
[Tiggs In Texas] RunSport Rocks: Can you believe I have not seen the last 4 episodes. I own all but the last CD of Season 6 and I got the last disc from Blockbuster Online and it arrived yesterday. However, when I opened it, it was the wrong disc! That has happened more than once so far since we have been using Blockbuster's version of NetFlix.
[Beautiful Atrocities] TABLOID DISMAY: MISSING BRIDE NOT DEAD: The Wilbanks anticlimax came at a bad time for the tabloid media, still looking for another hit after the Schiavo blockbuster. This week Court TV's Diane Dimond committed suttee on the steps on the Santa Maria courthouse after Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe gave groveling testimony in support of the embattled star. "You stupid cow!" Dimond screamed before combusting.
[Funkaoshi.com] A Funkaoshi Production :: Blog :: Maria Full Of Grace: I had planned to see Magneta Lane tonight at the Horseshoe, but instead opted for a quiet evening back in Scarborough. I met up with Carvill, Mez, and Dave, and the four of us went off to Blockbuster to rent some films. We decided on Maria Full of Grace, which I have been meaning to watch for a long time. The movie follows a young Columbian girl, who travels to New York city while working as a drug mule.
[Script-o-rama.com] Drew's Blog-O-Rama: The Movie Blog That Other Movie Blogs Beat Up ...: Get thee to a Hardee's!" The girl needs a culinary intervention, pronto. Don't get me wrong, if she always had that body type, a la Keira Knightley, it would be a whole different ballgame. But look at her thigh in that pic (via Yahoo), and then recall what it used to look like here...these days she could audition for the sequel to Team America: World Police. Please Angelina, go eat some rotisserie chicken with Brittany Murphy.
[Davidpoland.typepad.com] The Hot Blog: AFI Awards 2004: I'm so happy Maria Full of Grace continues to be recognized, and IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME Friday Night Lights got some love. I thought I was alone in thinking it was one of the best films of the year, and one of the best sports movies ever made. Since only directors can nominate directors for the Oscars, I'm betting that their peers will reward Joshua Marston and Peter Berg with a nod in Februaury.
[Bundokbiker.blogspot.com] bundokbiker: I don't have a good answer except that good writing takes a lot of brain cells, and I need to reserve what I have left for breathing, eating, and riding. Every time I'd hunker down to put in an entry, I'd spout off 500 to 1000 words, then think, "Where am I going with this?" I'd save it as a draft and never touch it again. My time, my thoughts, my moments converted to 1s and 0s, stagnating on some server out there. I could have been doing something else.
[Radio.weblogs.com] Iggy's Movie Reviews Weblog: There is, in this instance, a direct correlation between the length of this movie (85 minutes) and the quality of the final product. While I'm the first to assail a movie for undue length there is a minimum amount of time required to tell a story well. This condensed retelling of the story barely has enough time for all the action, let alone character development and social commentary. If you were expecting a morality tale you'll be disappointed.
