Disecting the Dragon - Removing the Fear of Technology
Paul Chenoweth on 2004/04/04:
„A year or so ago, my lead programmer and I decided to build'a box': one with loths of RAM, lots of speed, what I used to define as an obsene amount of disk storage space - 80Gig, CD/DVD player-writer, floppy disc, zip drive, and a monitor that I could read at a distance of 6 feet or so (that is approximately the distance from screen to bifocals attached to a programmer reclining in a Barco lounger). The parts were all ordered online from allstarshop.com and were delivered to the office within a week. Assembly took the best part of a weekened without special tools...and voila', Dragon built.“

Jon Johansen DVD case
bstandal on 2004/01/07:
„The reason the court is not certain whether there are one or two play keys assigned, it that DVD CCA has not been willing to make the program available to the experts of Økokrim, as the play keys have been qualified as trade secrets. If a DVD player or a player program for a PC with a DVD drive are not configured in such a way that the key or keys are sufficiently well protected against copying, the licensee may according to the licensing rules be imposed to pay a large sum for damages to DVD CCA. In addition to encryption, the system consists of a mechanism for authentification which is designed to deny access for an unauthorised player to the key material on the DVD. The authentification implies that components must recognise each other before the movie is performed.“

Dvd-Jon pt.1
Rachael on 2003/02/22:
„For my non-nordic readers (ooh it sounds so pompous), Jon Lech Johansen aka DVD-Jon or Jon "So Sue Me " Lech Johansen, was charged for designing a program (DeCSS) that cracked the "Content Scrambling System" on DVD films. Johansen's program allows for DVDs to be played on "unlicensed” DVD- players/equipment. The actual charge, without going into legalese (cos I can’t!) is that he “broke” the code to the scrambling device without being “entitled” to.“
