Choose to listen from the unit's built-in stereo speakers or its headphone jack and supplied earbud headphones. Best of all, perhaps, the unit's four-hour battery life gives you enough juice to watch two full-length movies. Full format compatibility includes everything from standard NTSC DVD-Video to PAL- and P-SCAN-formatted discs, audio CD, VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, JPEG CD, MP3 CD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the CH-LDV 712 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs when used in a home-theater environment. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The player also performs 3:2 pulldown through its progressive-scan output. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
Other connections include S-video and composite-video outputs (composite-video is switchable as an input), and a switchable analog audio input/output. An optical digital-audio output lets you hook the player up with an audio/video receiver and multichannel speaker system to enjoy immersive DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround from your discs (optical digital-audio interconnect not included).
What's in the Box
DVD player, headphones, AC adapter, automobile DC power adapter, remote control, stereo analog-audio output cable, composite-video output cable, and a user's manual.Average Customer Rating:
Comment: Great Product for the Money Rating:
This is a great portable DVD player for the money. I will admit that the better known brands (Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba...) do make better ones, but they cost $600 or more. This one is a little cheaply built (although I've had no problems so far), but for your money, you can't beat it.
The picture quality (on the built-in LCD or a TV) is just as good as any progressive-scan DVD player. The sound quality is great through headphones or TV speakers. The built-in speakers are not so great, but I have never seen one of these with good speakers. Also the included headphones are not so great, but headphones are cheap, so that's no big deal.
The best thing about this player is its battery. This is the only portable DVD player I have seen under $1200 with a 4-hour battery. Also, it is amazingly small and light, even with the battery attached. Another thing that really impressed me was its ability to convert full-screen movies to widescreen. You can't tell a full-screen movie from a widescreen one.
I would recommend that if you plan to travel with it, get a nice case. Also, get a cassette adapter to run the sound through your car stereo. And don't listen to the people that say it skips. I've TRIED to make it skip by shaking it and it wouldn't.
Basically, this player has all the features of a more expensive one, but is made with cheaper parts so they can sell it for an affordable price. If you need a good DVD player for an affordable price, I would go with this one. If you're Bill Gates, go ahead and get a nicer one like a Sony, Panasonic, or Toshiba.
Comment: Great Product Rating:
I am very impressed with this CyberHome portable dvd player. It is one the best gifts i have ever gotten and i am a gadget nut and have many unique gadgets and this is my new favorite now. It has a great picture, great sound ( especially on the headphones) and is very easy to use. It has many diffrent features and you can play cd's, mP3 and dvd's and mine came with its own carrying case. You can take this anywhere , car ( it comes with hangers so you can attach it anywhere you want to in car), airplane or anywhere you want! or you can just lay in bed and hook it up into the wall and watch movies that way. It also has another feature where you can hook it up to the tv. This is an amazing product and I highly recomend it. Worth the money.
Comment: Unpredictable Rating:
Great picture, but need to use headphones when traveling. A few problems with the screen working consistently and Cyberhome customer service has not been good to work with.
