The Legendary Sound of San Francisco's Ray Dolby
Jennifer King on 2004/03/29:
„The noise-reduction method he pioneered in the mid-1960s is used today to record the sounds of nearly every movie, professional music performance, and radio and television broadcast in the world. Technology made by Dolby Labs, headquartered in San Francisco since 1976, has been built into more than 1.4 billion consumer electronic products sold -- including everything from car stereos and cassette decks to DVD players and high-definition TVs.“

"Car is king at the DOT."
payton on 2004/03/16:
„For Schwartz, the fact that "the interior of our cars have become like our living rooms and offices"–with DVD players, email access, cup holders and beverages and snacks designed specifically to fit in those cup holders–indicates his brethren’s failure. "People know they’ll be spending so much time stuck in traffic they’re equipped to live in their cars."“

„Okay, here’s a hi-tech twist I hadn’t expected. I’ve seen DVD players in cars running before, and actually watched (at red lights) little snippets of movies in the van in front of me.“

CES: The new IT show
Keith Shaw on 2004/01/06:
„It's time once again for the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where hundreds of thousands of people will wander the halls looking at plasma TVs, DVD players, stereos, car entertainment systems, and, oh yeah, networking equipment (especially wireless).“

No more war-driving for me :-(
mmckeay on 2004/01/02:
„California has a new law that makes it illegal to have a video device operating in the front seat of a car. This means no computers, no dvd players, and may possibly mean it's illegal to use the navigation system in your high end car. Now I'm all for limiting the distractions a driver has, and I think anyone who's watching a movie while driving is stupid, but this law may be a little broader than intended. It's apparently a ticketable offense if the passenger is using his laptop while your driving.“

Merry Christmas, sucka.
Muddy on 2003/11/29:
„Three in the morning should be good enough you think, I'll beat everyone to the Wal*Mart line and get all the twenty nine dollar DVD players I can fit into my cart.“

Brandon Sprague on 2003/08/04:
„There is always a huge military presence on Karada Kharij, but usually because the soldiers love to shop there. Every morning when we exit the Rabiya, our apartment, we inevitably see a personnel carrier and truck convoy parked on the median with soldiers hefting all sorts of items into the bed of the trucks -- plastic chairs, tables, DVD players, enormous satellite dishes and bench press machines. But today things are different. Lots of military about and not just on the hunt for weight lifting equipment.“

the anti-brand ?
christinel on 2003/01/14:
„What if we could buy cars (to take that example) as a collection of features, and NOT as a 'brand'. My point is that I would be much more likely to spend more money on a car that had the features that I wanted (the LCD moon roof from above, individual DVD players, 4 wheel drive, etc) than on the brand prestige. I would even be willing to pay for the customized configuration - for the labor it would take to set up the line to manufacture _my_ car. In fact, if that were an option from any major car manufacturer, I would likely spend more money on automobiles than I have in the past, or than I plan to in the future.“

Microsoft, Panasonic tout HighMAT adoption
Jason Meserve on 2003/01/09:
„Microsoft added that 40 new devices ranging from DVD players to car stereos will begin supporting the Windows Media Format as well. With devices using the same format as a PC, users only have to have one file that they can share across all their personal listening devices - the Holy Grail of music and video enthusiasts. “
