[Mystery of a Shrinking Violet] I lived in India for two years and the medical practices I saw there (and experienced) still give me the chills. In-the-bone, gutlevel understanding of the germ theory has not made its home in Indian hospitals. Personally, I’d be very reluctant to let an Indian opthamologist touch my eyes. Shudder.

[Windsofchange.net] Winds of Change.NET: January 2003 Archives: My core focus is simple: How can we construct a liberal politics that respects individual rights? How can we accomplish liberal goals...helping the poor, improving the environment, equalizing the imbalances of power...without creating a stultifying bureaucratic state? I think it can be done, but I honestly don't know how. And how can we do it in the face of a world where the imbalances within and between societies in power, wealth, and culture are running up against cheap communication, transportation, and weapons.
[Srv.net] Survivor U-Haul Alaska law: faux democracy: On Tuesday night, I found out in Santa Clara, California. The sound it makes is a deafening silence, and it sent chills up and down my spine. This sound scared me more than anything I've ever heard in my life. That night I experienced the illusion of casting my vote on a state of the art touch screen "DRE" (direct recording electronic) computer voting system.
