Product Description:
Rest it in your lap, stand it on a desk, or mount it on a wall or in the car--there's not much you can't do with AcomData's clever little AWEGO Tablet DVD player (model PDVD7). Backpack-ready with its included soft carrying case, the player seems little more than its 7-inch TFT (thin-film-resistor) liquid-crystal screen, standing an inch thick and really no bigger than a hardcover book. It handles DVD-Video movies, video CDs (commercial and recorded), DVD-Audio high-resolution music programs (stereo only), and your homemade MP3 and WMA digital music compilations--not to mention your digital photos on JPEG-encoded CDs. The player's rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers about 3 hours playback between charges. At home, you can hook it up to your home theater for true home theater with its composite-video output and optical digital-audio output, which--when connected to a compatible audio/video receiver and surround speaker system--is capable of delivering enveloping Dolby Digital and DTS (and MPEG) 5.1-channel surround sound from your movies and concert videos. Not set up for surround? Onboard virtual surround sound (VSS) circuitry simulates multi-channel sound when played through stereo speakers, including the player's own. On the road, the player has the ability to run off its battery or from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter adapter using a supplied power adapter. Optional mounting kits let you position the Tablet on the back of car headrests or even a car's sun visor (not the diver's, we hope). The player's Digital Photo Viewer offers advanced search, navigation, and viewing options. Audio tone controls abound, too. For movies, Speech Enhancer improves the audibility of dialogue during low-volume listening. CDs, on the other hand, benefit from the Tablet's graphic equalizer and preset EQ curves, helping you get the best sound for your environment or tastes. Other features include Parental Lock to restrict what movies your kids can watch, video enhancements, picture zoom for movies and photos, and a reverse-image viewing option. What's in the Box AWEGO Tablet DVD player, remote control, remote battery, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, an AC adapter, a car adapter, an audio/video cable, a soft carrying case, an accessories bag, a user's guide, and a warranty registration card.

Comment: The AcomData PDVD7 portable DVD player (revisited) Rating:
Okay... in a previous review, I gave it a 4 star rating und sung many praises. Well, I guess I spoke too early. Soon after writing the review, a problem showed up. I could watch movies in widescreen mode, but when I changed it to 4:3, there were vertical green lines all over the screen. Tried adjusting all settings, but no change. I could still watch movies in widescreen with no problems, but this unit wasn't worth keeping if it wasn't fully functioning. I tried e-mailing und calling AcomData... talk about customer service, or the lack of that is. And when they finally did respond, via e-mail, they said that they have never had such happen and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Oh well, I returned the unit anyways... I like it for it's tablet style design, size, and feel. Too bad this product has flaws which seem to show up after you've owned it for a while. FYI... this same portable DVD player is also being sold under the name Coby.
Comment: My experience with the AcomData PDVD7 portable DVD player Rating:
Myself... I think this is a great player. True, it just like any other product has faults, but I didn't have any of the problems like the ones I've read about in other reviews. The PDVD7 played my dvds without fault, the picture was beautiful, though at times I admit, it could use some improvement. I even played VCD movies without problems. I still have yet to try playing mp3s, or photo discs with this unit, but I primarily bought it for viewing DVDs. The player is never shown with the battery. So I was rather surprised after I got the unit to find out that the battery is actually an external unit which attaches to the bottom of the player. This makes the player bigger, and heavier, but not in a bad way. I would totally suggest this product to others. I haven't dealt with AcomData's customer service yet, so no comments there.
Comment: Would be nice if it worked........ Rating:
What a great disappointment.....Terrific looking machine....great potential....HOWEVER THE PRODUCT ARRIVED WITH FATAL DEFECTS AND CANNOT WORK....APPARANTLY THE COMPANYS QUALITY CONTROL ISNT WORKING VERY WELL.... The liquid crystal screen displays a red arrow which is used on the quality control line....the side corner of the display is wrinkled which doesnt permit the unit to play.....this is something that was clearly ignored or overlooked by the quality control people and just try to get in touch with acomdata, good luck,,,i have been trying for the past three days.......Do not buy this as a Xmas present or for any other reason until they fix the problems.......now this piece of high tech parapalegic will immediatly be returned..........also the unit did not come with the dual headphones,,,,as specified in the product description.......This product has a long way to go. WHAT A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT....I cant give a review of the playing qualities because it never started......thank goodness i checked it out before Xmas...
